Beijing closing ceremony

I had a laugh with the umbrellas while the double decker bus pulled away. But really, why the hell couldn't they have gotten the three surviving members of Led Zeppelin to play instead of some reality star singer dressed like a skank to murder the song? And I thought Diddy had been sacreligous. And these announcers at NBC are really laying it on thick. "Oh, she's popular worldwide, hit #1" in yea many countries.

Her first album came out not even 12 months ago. Cry, sweat, and bleed touring for twenty years and have an incident involving a red snapper and a groupie, and then we'll talk, toots. Until then, you do not hold the slightest candle to Robert Plant.

I would have liked Paul and Ringo to perform with Dhani and Sean or Julian. Even the Stones as a last resort.... blah.

on this Olympic's gymnastics

Ouch. It seems like all the gymnasts this Olympics are falling off their apparatii, or are falling on their asses on the dismounts. The only sport I'm really following this Olympics is gymnastics. I'm going to watch Natalie Du Toit compete for South Africa in swimming.

This whole age controversy with the Chinese gymnasts makes me rather sad. One governing body will take what another gave them at face value, the first saying the papers weren't forged, even though there's newspaper articles in the gymnasts home country listing her as very underage? It seems like neither group wants to take responsibility that someone there fucked up severely, or was bribed. Very sad.

Huh. Looks like I'll be seeing that new Brad Pitt movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Bratt, or whatever it's called. It reminds me of an episode of Star Trek voyager, where the children are born fully grown (now, they didn't explain it, so don't look at me like that), and are left by a cave at an advanced age (and then they look ten-ish) to be eaten by some energy monster of some kind. I think the story arch was rather Tovul related.

Side-bar linked to my Ravelry page. Need to take pictures of my lovely, lovely stash.

borgata sent me slot and comp dollars!

This afternoon I cranked out a two curtain panels for Maria's 5 year old daughter. This involved me calling Maria and asking what kind of curtain rod I had left there- shows you how long ago it was since I can't remember it.

The project started off on a bad note- I couldn't find the damned thing that screws and holds the needle in place. After tearing apart my room, I thought to look in the sewing machine carrying case- and there it was, in the bottom. Why the fuck I had detached it ages ago, I have no idea.

Oddly enough, my leg craped up fell asleep as soon as I stopped walking between (and hunching over) the ironing board and the sewing machine. Who knows when I'll manage to drop the drapes off. I kind of want to drop 'em off the same time I drop of her older brother's.

And those will be four panels with two valances. Solid black for panels, Tatsu for valance once I figure out how I should have the dragons going. It's going to be a tiny valance, the molding is only 40 by 48.

In the past month or two (since I'm so grand keeping track), I've finally finished and given Myra the stop sign baby blanket for her son. Yay! Oh, and apparently, 'stop' is one of his favorite words. I had a laugh when she told me.

Something positive. I could have sworn there used to be a search-able archive by quote, but I'm not seeing it anymore. Will have to find my favorite, the 'sproing!' one by rereading them all. But this one's almost as good. almost. edit- found it.

don't do drugs, kiddies

Now, the process of me finding this bit of what the fuck-ery is as follows:

Be bored. Randomly search for old 80s videos on youtube.

The Talking Heads- Psycho Killer (live), Once in a Lifetime, Burning down the House (live), Wild Wild Life
Metallica- The Memory Remains
Marianne Faithfull- Working Class Hero (live), Ballad of Lucy Jordan, Broken English, Sister Morphine
to below. It's also in the first page of results for the search "Marianne Faithful", but I didn't notice that then.

s-m-r-t

I gave in to the urge to try the meme Robbie had post last week. I figured it would give me an insufficient data message, or some other tripe like that since I had all of two posts. *snerks*

Seeing as though I know how to remove an unsightly ad from the html, yes, I am feeling father smart today.

I need me some chocolate chips

And now, because I hate the yearly rush of "ohmygod, where they hell did I put it?!?!", my favorite holiday cookie recipe of my mother's, taken from page 9A of the Wednesday, December 7th 1977 Newsday newspaper, originating from somewhere in Long Island, NY.

Step five cuts off with the instructions '-Continued on page 13A', but it's self explanatory. If I find the extra bit, this will get updated.

Overnight meringues
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 egg whites
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1 cup finely-chopped pecans
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate bits

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees before you start making this recipe. It must be hot when the cookies go in, because you will immediately turn off the oven and let the cookies slowly cook for 8 hours.
2. In a dry, clean mixing bowl, beat salt and egg whites together, until foamy.
3. Gradually add sugar, a few tablespoons at a time, beating until mixture is very stiff.
4. Fold in nuts and chocolate bits. Drop cookies by heaping teaspoons onto a sheet of silicone paper (baking parchment).
5. Place cookies in oven, turn off oven immediately and keep door shut. Let cook-

ies bake for 8 hours. If your oven does not have a viewing window, resist the temptation to open it, because every time you do, heat is lost. Salmonella is a bad, bad puppy and you want those cookies to bake.
6. Tray should be cool when removed. Gently remove cookies from paper and store ideally in dry tin or Tupperware container; or a zip lock bag, if you have somewhere to place it where nothing will get dropped on the bag. These cookies have a tendency to crumble if grabbed too hard when removing from paper.

I think it makes at least 2 dozen.

My cousin Annie and I used to always fight who got the first one at Aunt Margie's get-together. She got all the ones on her birthday :-p

boobies!

knitxcore, evil boy that he is (not) has managed to get me to join another blog site. Which is good since livejournal got all anti-breastfeeding, pro-censoring and I can't stand for that.

Life's been a little busy. Not much time to sleep, let alone knit. Maybe this will motivate me to get my ass into gear. And clean my room- I swear the dust bunnies have it in for me.

So, hi. I'm 25 and still consider myself a beginning knitter since I only began learning right about when book 6 come out (June 2005). I can knit, purl, increase, decrease, slip and yarn over. Anything more complicated scares me. I desperately need to learn how to crochet to finish a blanket- that's my next goal. After all, the kid was born in May? I've got time.
